Zadar to Krka National Park: Bus, Car or Day Tour?
A practical guide to reaching the waterfalls, choosing your entrance and leaving time for Skradin.
Zadar to Krka: the quick answer
You can reach Krka National Park from Zadar by car, scheduled bus to Skradin or organized day tour. For a first visit, focus on Skradinski buk, the famous waterfall area reached through Skradin or Lozovac. Choose Skradin for time in town and the seasonal park boat transfer; choose Lozovac for the main land entrance.
Swimming is allowed at the beach in Skradin town. Swimming at Skradinski buk waterfall is prohibited. They are different places.

The Zadar–Skradin bus route is approximately 74 km according to FlixBus. Driving distance varies with your starting point and whether you choose Skradin or Lozovac. As a planning estimate, allow around an hour on the road, plus time for parking and reaching the waterfall area. Traffic can make the trip longer.
Skradin is the gateway town, not the waterfall itself. Arriving there does not mean you are already at Skradinski buk: allow time to reach the park departure point and continue into the park.
Zadar to Krka: bus, car or day tour?
| Option | Best for | What to organize |
|---|---|---|
| Car | Flexible timing and stops | Route, parking, park ticket and entrance transfer |
| Scheduled bus | Independent visitors without a car | Both bus journeys, exact stops, park ticket and onward access |
| Day tour | Return transport and an arranged itinerary | Meeting point and departure time; park ticket included |
Zadar to Krka by car
Set your navigation to your chosen entrance rather than simply “Krka National Park”, which covers a much larger area. The A1 motorway is a practical route towards Skradin; check the route and any tolls before setting off.
For Skradin, park in town and follow signs to the park ticket office and boat departure point. For Lozovac, use the main land entrance and follow the current instructions for reaching Skradinski buk. The park operates seasonal bus transport there; a walking trail is another option. Check arrangements for your visit rather than assuming you can drive to the waterfall.
A car is useful if you want to add another park locality. Additional places require their own travel time: do not mistake a visit to Skradinski buk for seeing all of Krka.
Zadar to Krka by bus
Look for a Zadar to Skradin service. FlixBus lists this route, with the fastest advertised journey around 50 minutes. That is the bus journey to town, excluding the walk to park facilities, queues and access to the waterfalls.
- Check outward and return journeys for your actual date before buying either ticket.
- Confirm the precise Skradin stop on your ticket. The operator lists more than one stop; they are not interchangeable.
- Allow time to get from the stop to the park ticket office and departure point.
- Plan your return around both the park transport timetable and your bus back to Zadar.
A scheduled bus ticket does not include park admission. Prices and services vary, so use the operator’s current Zadar–Skradin timetable rather than a copied departure time.

An organized excursion suits visitors who want return transport and help coordinating the park visit. Our Krka Waterfalls Tour from Zadar combines transport in an air-conditioned vehicle, a driver-guide, the park visit and free time in Skradin.

Skradin: choose this gateway if you arrive by bus, want time in the town or prefer the park’s seasonal boat approach. The boat transfer to Skradinski buk takes about 20 minutes when operating. Check the current schedule and ticket conditions; the transfer is not a year-round guarantee.
Lozovac: this is the main land entrance. It is convenient for drivers and offers seasonal park bus transport towards the waterfall area. There is also an approximately 875-metre walking trail from the entrance; account for the terrain and the return climb.
Both entrances lead to Skradinski buk. Choose according to your transport and preferred day, then check official entrance information.
How much time do you need at Krka?
The official park webshop gives about two hours for a visit to Skradinski buk, excluding access time. Allow more if you stop frequently for photographs, travel with children or prefer a slower walk. Add time for the boat or entrance bus, waiting and your return transfer.
For a relaxed day trip from Zadar, keep the main focus on Skradinski buk and Skradin. Visiting Roški slap, Visovac or other localities needs additional planning and transport; these are not automatically included in a standard waterfall visit.
Can you swim at Krka National Park?
Swimming at Skradinski buk waterfall is prohibited. You can swim at the beach in Skradin town, outside the waterfall area.
If a tour advertises swimming in Skradin, it means the town beach, not a swim beneath the famous falls. Bring swimwear and a towel for summer free time in town and follow local beach notices.
Other parts of the national park have separate rules for designated swimming areas and dates. They are not part of the Skradinski buk swimming offer. Check the park’s official swimming guidance if you are planning a different locality.
What to see at Krka in one day
Start with the walking route around Skradinski buk. Wooden walkways and viewpoints take you through the waterfall landscape; restored watermills introduce the area’s traditional life. Stay on marked routes and leave room for other visitors at busy viewpoints.
- Travel from Zadar to your chosen park entrance.
- Continue to Skradinski buk using the access arrangements for that day.
- Walk the waterfall route and visit the watermill displays.
- Return to Skradin for lunch, a stroll or a summer swim at the town beach.
- Leave enough time for the journey back to Zadar.
This is a suggested independent plan. If booking a tour, follow its published itinerary and your guide’s return instructions. Bring comfortable walking shoes, water, sun protection and a light layer; boardwalks and steps can be wet.
Krka tickets and opening hours
Admission prices depend on the season, visitor category and the area covered by your ticket. Opening hours and entrance transport also vary. Select your travel date and the Skradinski buk ticket option in the official webshop before comparing the total cost of a bus trip, driving or a tour.
Keep these costs separate: return travel from Zadar, park admission, parking or tolls if driving, and meals. On our organized excursion the park ticket is already included, so you do not need to buy one separately.
Is Krka worth a day trip from Zadar?
Krka is a good choice if you want waterfalls and a walk through river scenery within reach of Zadar, with time for a small town afterwards. Choose it for the landscape and walking experience; plan any swimming for Skradin rather than the falls.
